Just a quick question, with probably a long answer -

I (you) have set up an MySQL database on my website, users can now send me details that are stored on this single table database.

If I create a coresponding database on my home computer can I link live to this SQL database on your server, or is this not possilble.

regards

It is possible. If we can understand your question correctly, then probably the best solution for you is to install phpMyAdmin on your local machine and make it work directly with your DB on HostingTrade account.

Please let us know if you will have any further questions. We will be glad to help you.

Thank you for using our services.

I was thinking more of building a database using Access and then linking to the Mysql using something like ODBC 3.51.06.

Then when I open the Access database or similar it would automatically connect to my web data and either manipuate the data while it is still on your server, or downloading the data into my Access database and then I could sort and run queries using Access.

I guess I am trying to get the data from your server to my computer, so if I have Access running and a customer requires a booking then as the servers MySQL database is being populated than also my Access database will be populated, kind of working live, if all that makes sense.

I don't know if this is possible.

It is possible, but we are not sure about sense in your case ;)
Anyway, if you want to try it, please take a look here: http://www.washington.edu/computing/web ... ccess.html
, and don't forget to add your IP to the accessed hosts list for MySQL in your CPanel.

Please let us know if you will have any further questions.

 Post subject: Access Denied Error
PostPosted: Mon Mar 28, 2005 17:28
I am trying to connect to a MySQL database, as well. My logic is why should I create a second database on my PC, if I can access the one on the website? The issue is I get Access Denied errors. I've tried, as you suggested, adding my workstation's IP address to the Access Hosts portion of the MySQL Account Maintenance page. However, all that shows is localhost. Shouldn't it show the IP I've added? Also, what is the correct information for the server field of the ODBC configuration dialog? I've tried the IP of my webserver from the cPanel account list. Thanks.

Hi.

It's not required to do that.

Please PM us the following information:
1. Username of your account
2. The screenshots of your ODBC configuration window (where you've entered DB location, username and password)

Also, what is the correct information for the server field of the ODBC configuration dialog?

It can be yourdomain.com

Waiting for your reply.

Thank you.

I do not understand the response, "It's not required to do that." If I don't need ODBC to link to the database to, say, do a mailmerge in MS Word, then what do I need?

Sorry for the confusion.

That was the answer to your following question:
Quote:

So again it's not necessary to create a second database on your PC. While you would need to use ODBC link to access the database at your hosting account.

If we misunderstand your request - please just let us know in detail what exactly you would like to have in result, and we will try to suggest you about how to reach that result.

Thank you for using our services.
